ScanFolio

ScanFolio Privacy Policy

Effective date: 6 October 2026

ScanFolio lets you scan barcodes and text with your camera or from photos you select. This policy explains what happens to your scans and how you can manage them.

Camera and photos

Barcode recognition, text recognition and code generation take place on your device. ScanFolio does not upload camera frames or selected photos to a developer-operated recognition service. ScanFolio does not save everything your camera sees or every photo you open. A result is added to History only when you choose to save it. Generate can add its PNG to your Photos library only when you tap Save to Photos and grant add-only access. A saved result includes the scanned content, its format and source, the date, and an image when available.

Saved scans and iCloud

Saved scan content, images and thumbnails are encrypted with AES-256-GCM and stored on your device. Record identifiers and creation dates are not encrypted by ScanFolio’s content encryption. When iCloud is available, ScanFolio also backs them up in your private iCloud database. Other devices receive the small scan details for all dates. Images from the last two days download automatically; older images download when you tap to request them. Images already downloaded remain available locally. The keys needed to read scans on another device are shared through iCloud Keychain. If a key has not arrived, that device cannot yet display the scan. Your use of iCloud is subject to your Apple account settings and Apple's Privacy Policy.

You can delete a saved scan in History. If iCloud sync is available, the deletion will also sync to your other devices, although this may take time. Deleting the app removes its local data; it may not remove copies already in iCloud. You can manage iCloud data in your Apple account settings.

History access and retention

History requires iOS device-owner authentication using Face ID, Touch ID where available, or your device passcode and locks again when the app enters the background. Authentication is handled by iOS; ScanFolio does not receive your biometric data. Saved scans remain until you delete them. History requires an active Plus subscription; subscription expiry retains saved data but prevents History access. Deleting generated images from History does not delete copies you separately saved to Photos or shared with someone else.

Purchases

If you subscribe to ScanFolio Plus, Apple handles the purchase and billing. The app checks your subscription status through Apple's StoreKit service. We do not receive your payment card details through ScanFolio.

Sharing and support

The Share action sends the result text to the destination you choose, outside ScanFolio’s encrypted History. Copy places result text on the system clipboard. GO opens the selected link through iOS; the destination app or website may receive the URL and process information under its own privacy practices. These actions occur only when you choose them. If you email us for support, we use your email address and message to respond to you.

Analytics and advertising

ScanFolio does not include a third-party analytics or advertising service. We do not sell your saved scans or use them for targeted advertising.

Your choices

You control which photos you select and which results you save. You can delete individual results or use Delete all scans in History, change camera access in iOS Settings, and manage iCloud and subscriptions through your Apple account.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if ScanFolio's features or data practices change. When we do, we will change the effective date shown above.

The public support and privacy pages contain no analytics scripts, advertising scripts or contact forms.
